The 3784th Worldwide Cleanup Campaign, Outstanding Volunteering Efforts Reach Brisbane’s Lord Mayor

On Sunday 21 May 2017, World Mission Society Church of God volunteers in Brisbane, once more, assembled their cleaning gear. Just three weeks after their last clean up, they were ready to tackle the litter again. Along the Bulimba Creek in Brady Bushland, and in Glenefer Street Park, Runcorn, they noticed a lot of rubbish lying around.

Despite a forecast of rainy weather, the members turned up in cheerful spirits. However, the misty morning transformed, and became beautiful sunshine. Volunteers of all ages, in bright yellow vests, gathered in the park. Children were extremely excited in anticipation of picking up rubbish. Certainly, WMSCOG volunteers have cultivated passion about the environment through numerous cleanup campaigns. As inhabitants of this planet created by Elohim God, they have love for nature.

“I am delighted to see so much rubbish being picked up before it could be washed down the creek!”, said Haley, one of the members. A passer-by said, “It is good to have you around. Thank you!” By the members’ united efforts, rubbish such as: a discarded broken air-conditioner, chairs, a tyre collected from the creek, and rubbish filling about 20 bags, were gathered.

Cr Kim Marx encourages the volunteers

Runcorn Councillor, Kim Marx, and her assistant, Heidi, turned up to give support. Though with a swollen ankle, Cr Marx made an impressive effort to attend the event and give praise to the members for their good work. Cr Marx said, “I can never thank you enough – you have all done a fantastic job!” The good deeds of the members moved Cr Marx to support the group in their future cleanups, with refreshments, water, and cleaning tools. Cheering “We Love You!”, the members expressed their thanks to Cr Marx, for her heartfelt and touching efforts to encourage them.

Lord Mayor of Brisbane Awards a Certificate of Appreciation to WMSCOG

Indeed, Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Cr Graham Quirk, heard from Cr Marx about the cleanup campaigns of the Church of God. The protecting efforts and help from WMSCOG volunteers, especially in enhancing the environment of Runcorn, deeply impressed him. What is more, as a surprise, he awarded a special certificate of appreciation to the World Mission Society Church of God.

With laughter, filled with the fragrance of joy, they thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful morning. And they ended their event in the green park by sharing refreshments together.

Members gave heartfelt thanks and glory to Christ Ahnsahnghong and Heavenly Jerusalem Mother. They were grateful for the opportunity to be like good Samaritans. Through caring for the environment, they hope to combat climate change.
