7582nd Worldwide Cleanup Campaign at Jack Roper Reserve

November 19, 2023

On Sunday the 19th of November, 2023 the World Mission Society Church of God hosted their 7582nd worldwide environmental cleanup campaign at Jack Roper Reserve in Broadmeadows. The event was attended by 75 cheerful volunteers, which included members of the Church, friends, and family, as they dedicated 2 hours of their morning to cleaning up litter around the lake and parkland area.

Jack Roper Reserve is a popular urban parkland in Broadmeadows located beside the Western Ring Road. It contains a large lake and parkland area with a playground, barbecue, and bathroom facilities. There’s also a popular walking trail surrounding the lake which is frequented by many pedestrians. The lake is a popular fishing spot containing several species of fish including eel, carp, and rainbow trout. It is also home to several species of water fowl including ducks, domestic geese, and black swans.

Although the local council does good work in maintaining the area, a lack of human resources is an ongoing issue for most councils when trying to keep the environment clean in busy locations that are often subject to litter. To preserve the health and vitality of the native flora and fauna in the area, minimizing non-biodegradable litter and pollution is imperative. That’s why it’s so important for individuals to become active participants in environmental conservation campaigns carried out by volunteer groups, such as the World Mission Society Church of God. A healthy environment promotes wellbeing, not just for the native wildlife, but for the local community as well.

In an effort to promote wellbeing within the local community, the volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God worked tirelessly to clear away as much litter as possible from the reserve during the cleanup. The event lasted for 2 hours, beginning from 10am, and the volunteers collected a total of 1,500kg of rubbish, including recyclables, litter, and hard waste for proper disposal.

In recognition of the effort of the volunteers put forth through this cleanup campaign, Hume City Council’s Lord Mayor Naim Kurt congratulated the World Mission Society Church of God with a certificate of appreciation, praising them with “a great act of service to the local community.” The World Mission Society Church of God aims to continue working to support Hume City Council through environmental conservation efforts in the future for the benefit of the local council community.

The World Mission Society Church of God works on a global scale to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for the peace and wellbeing of humanity. Environmental cleanup campaigns, such as the event held at Jack Roper Reserve, are just one small part of a worldwide effort to promote a better life for everyone within the global village.

The Church conducts regular volunteer activities, such as cleanup initiatives, with the belief that sharing the love of God the Mother through volunteer service can change the world.
